The Asian Development Bank and the Asian Institute of Management are regional institutions dedicated to poverty reduction and sustainable development of Asian societies. Realizing the synergy that can be drawn from the experience and global recognition each one has garnered over the years, the ADB and the AIM explored strengthening its mutual cooperation through a small-scale technical assistance from the ADB.

The pilot project executed under the auspices of the Poverty Reduction and Social Development Division of the ADB bore the idea of an “ADB-AIM Networking Project”, a program designed to mutually enhance the relationship between ADB staff and AIM faculty. The networking project was formally launched with an inaugural conference, "Selected Issues in Banking, Microfinance, and Regional Economic Cooperation" on January 21 - 22, 2004.
